For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone ... Repent and live! Ezekiel 18:32
Pennellwood Church began when a group of families from Southlawn Church of God gathered for an in-home Bible study on Division Avenue in February of 1935. Church services began that May with F. L. Austin as the first pastor of Pennellwood and by September of that same year Pennellwood became an official organization with 46 charter members.
A handful of families regularly gave up a months wages in order to make the building at 3459 Reiser Avenue a reality. On April 3, 1949, the first service was held in the church that now sits on the corner of Reiser and 35th Street. There were 88 members in attendance on that day. In 1955, six years after the church was completed, an addition was made on the north side making space for classrooms and offices.
Pennellwood Church has changed many lives, bringing people to an understanding of God's plan of salvation. More than a half dozen ministers have emerged from Pennellwood's congregations over the years. It has and continues to serve as a home to all who seek to draw closer to God, to know the truths of Scripture and to truly know what it is to love our neighbor.
The Churches of God (headquartered in McDonough, Georgia) in many parts of the world form a unique segment of the religious world with which you as a seeker for truth should be familiar. While small in size, its contribution to Bible understanding has been great. In many ways its leaders have pioneered a reawakening in the understanding of Bible truths that were long hidden in the darkness of human traditions and philosophy.
